help needed in 3dsmax6

oy !
im a newbie to 3d studio max 6 and was trying to make a 3d self portrait. how do you map a picture to a plane? and when i create the plane, its subdivided into 16 parts.. is that normal?

first of, you don't start with such a big 3d modelling project when you are new to a 3d application. modelling a head is very difficult and needs a lot of expirience.
i think you should really start with some easy stuff first.
anyway, press 'M' for the material editor if you want to get some surface on your modells.

are you using the picture as a guide for the mesh or are you trying to make a frame or something?
if its modeling you are trying I would recommend "http://www.pixel2lif...t=16&subtut=47"
there is a car modeling tutorial I would start with.

I'm going to answer the second question first. Yes, that's normal. The default segments for a plane is 4x4 which equals 16.

Okay there are a few ways to apply a texture to the plane. The easiest is to open the material editor, choose a slot, click on "diffuse" and select new, then bitmap, choose the image, then click on the "apply texture to mesh" or whatever button.

Or you can do all of the above except drag the slot (colored ball with image on it) to the plane.

Experiment with it and you'll figure it out.
