Hey all,

so I'm working on developing a new site, that could potentially (and very soon) have hundreds..to thousands... to tens of thousands of users within roughly 6 months (if not sooner). Which could equate to quite a number of alterations/queries to be run...

I'm struck between a few options:

1. mySQL

2. PostgreSQL

3. Other options? (oracle really isn't an option since its so extremely expensive/license)

Please give experience / background of what you've used if you nominate a database.

Thanks! :)

My personal vote is for MySQL. Honestly it is the only one I've worked with, but it is also one that you will find the most resources on. I know it scales extremely well, and is very good at basically optimizing itself as you go.

Like I said, unfortunately I have no opinion on any other database structure since I've never used them.
