On your own website would be a good place to start.

Place it where people will see them within your pages.

Anywhere is good, try to make a table with 1 row and 1 colomn and put it in there. But beware of overdoing it!!

make sure they will be visible!

Put them somewhere noticable, but still well integrated into your content. One of the highest performing ad sizes is the 300x250 box. If you can fit that somewhere, use it.

The thing you need to remember though, impressions hurt! Try not to place many ads on each page, just make sure the ones you have on there are placed well. Too many impressions means lower CTR, which isn't good for you.

Looking at your website layout, I don't think the 120x600 on the left is in a good spot. To get the highest CTR, you want to have them seemlessly fit into the design. A really good example is here on P2L. On the front page, theres a 300x250 box which fits very well with the design.

For your website, I would suggest trying smaller ads. Maybe a 468x60 inbetween the first and second news posts, and the same type of integration on the other pages.

You also might want to try re-designing your website and incorperting ad space into it.

You can also customize the look-and-feel of the AdSense ads. I like to set the background color and the border color of the ads to the same color as my site's background color. And set the Ad headlines to the same color as your site's link. That way the ads blends in with your content. I think people sub-consciously avoid looking at ads if the ads are obviously different from the rest of the site.
