Woe
This probably goes for all new web designers. It has nothing to do with the design aspect or creating templates. This tutorial was made for people who've failed at creating a website because they didn't put it together correctly.

5. FORUMS
If you are thinking of having forums when you open your site for the first time, then you are stupid and should just shut the whole thing down. Not only will you not have that many visitors but nobody will want to post dumb topics about how shitty your site is and how ignorant you are for creating one. If you want a forum that bad, the best idea is to affiliate with a website whose forums are already popular.

wtf.gif I guess you don't know as much as you preach.

I have no idea why people say that... P2L started with forums and they grew just like the rest of the site did... in fact, every hobby site I've done started with a forum and they all did well.

Wow you got a lot of language on this article!

You need to have something unoriginal and fresh.

I agree with having a purpose. Too many design sites have the 'no direction' status.

To get a succesful forum, you need to start with a base of people who actually use the forums, so it can grow. If you don't have a core group, the forum goes down the tubes. If you could have a forum with five friends who post a lot, you could really grow from 5 to thousands. You need to spread the word too.

A person might go to a forum to obtain information. If I have a mac question, then I could go to a mac forum. I post the question and I get a solution, I will probably turn to the site again for more questions. Bascially, it comes down to if a forum can do a service for a person. If it does, people will participate.

Edit: I'm sorry for the language and overrall idea concept of the tutorial. I apologize if I offended anyone with this tutorial and if I've posted it more than once on Pixel2Life. Anyway, I've fixed the tutorial.

Thanks for the feedback. I really should cut out some of the language and narrow down the whole forum idea. I hope I didn't offend anyone with this article.

when i start a site i make the homepage and all base pages, i then setup and finish the forum. This is because most of the time my friends and other users often use the forum to contribute to my site.

I feel that a forum (only if relevant) is an important aspect to any site as the client/visitor can become involved deeper with your site and it increases there interest. smile.gif.

Just because your forum isnt active or large doesnt mean it isnt effective.

Yeah, I can understand if you have a true purpose and need for a forum. However, if someone starts a site and a forum idea pops into their head just because a lot of sites have forums and their site's idea and content have nothing interesting to discuss about, then the forum idea is pointless. I hope that made sense.
