Full Version: Simply Spa Logo Competition - 100GBP/185US$

Discontinuity
I'd been browsing the P2L forums and after a couple of days trying to register here I am. If you'd like any further information (ie. background) please add me to msn (that's dig ital mon kee / hotma il . co m ) and I'll provide further guidelines. Mods, if I've posted this in the wrong place or broken any forum rules, please let me know - I've read the rules etc and I guessed this was the best place to post it from the other posts in this forum.

So without further ado I announce the competition.

A webshop selling home spa products (ie. nice, natural smelly stuff) needs a logo. The prize (assuming there's a worthwhile winner) is 100 pounds sterling or the equivalent in US monies.

The text: simply spa. (.co.uk is optional.)
The style: on a white background, natural, not over-complex or fussy.

// spoiler, these logos are in the right direction, but not quite good enough. The blue one doesn't say 'spa' enough, the brown one isn't 'fresh' enough.

These are nice, but aren't enough to create an enduring brand, or work up a site from. You might not want to look at them. Having seen the P2L logo challenge, I'm hoping for similar qualities.

Competition Guidelines

1. Please reply with your logos in this post, by msn or by email (john dot hancock at hancock consulting dot com dot ay you - yes that's an aussie address)
2. Please watermark if you don't trust me. I am a new member around here.
3. Please be prepared to endorse the legitimacy of this competition after you've been paid (ie. post here letting everyone know you did get paid.
4. Final logo(s) will need to be in a scalable form. This isn't 100% set in stone, if you can't provide a png/eps etc or high res image then please let me know with your logo design.
5. Deadline is Saturday 26th August 2006, 12:00 AM Australian Eastern Standard Time. (that's UK+9 at the moment)
6. Prize is 100GBP or your currency equivalent. This will be paid by cheque if you have a UK bank account, otherwise by paypal etc.
7. All artwork must be original and/or be free of copyright, except regarding your intellectual property rights - the prize will require transferral of your rights as the author of the work to hancockconsulting.com.au.
8. If none of the logos here are deemed appropriate for the company, full reasons and feedback will be provided and the competition will be extended for a further seven (7) days.

It is my intention to run further logo competitions assuming the success of this one - next one will start in 3-4 days if there are a few good responses to this one in that time. Good luck, and
Matheus

-The Pros Entries-

Here are all of My entries for the contest. Enjoy! The best are first, and what I think to be the worst are last. (although they won't get too bad.)

xis
I have a suggestion to the designers entering this contest. Don't look at the sample logos. They are examples of what they do not want their logo to look like.

If I had the skill I'd try something smooth with a bit of a wavey feel to it. Maybe a wavey palm tree drawing but one thats not too bold.

I expect something good out of mattyk and griffin if they enter this.

Good luck to everyone who enters and discontinuity on finding the winner.
The_pro_designer
I didn't see anyone doing what the examples did?

also it clearly says.. now that i read they are in the right direction they just want it to look fresher.. more colorful.. and i didnt read that so im probaly out now victory.gif

hehe ill try to cut some simpler ones later.. done for now.. three is enough..

Yeah, I didn't really mean anyone was going off the current examples. I'm just saying that they're looking for something more that they can really brand. You're three entries so far are good but I bet you can do better bigwink.gif

Good luck.

I like this the bast out of all of mine.. its simple.. and has a nice feel to it ^^

Dunno why but that reminds me of a default brush in Photoshop, something I have seen on many sites too.
jnl264
Here is my logo. Will probably be more..

Good luck! victory.gif
The_pro_designer
You are probaly seeing the grass shape tool being used for the inside.. thats defult.. the square thng I made my own.. smile.gif also if you see that block on many sites.. I did not use any tutorials? Huh.. weird.. :/

I think I may know where you've seen those, Donna. Some of the icon sets you've posted in the free resource area have icons that look those. The glossy look etc.

I saw something like it in the AE Art competition...maybe that's where you saw it. (Clicky!)

EDIT: If you look at the grassy shape inside his logo and the grassy shape in the logo on the other side of that link, they are the same shape. The one on this forum is simply scaled down vertically. Looks kinda like copying to me... :/

I believe she was refering to the grassy object inside of it.

You should submit something that's 100% your work not someone elses, surely you don't expect anyone to pay out on a competition when you used a readymade do you? I hope not.
The_pro_designer
The only thing that wasnt mine was that little grass thing.. But is you wan't me to remake it I can.. Woulden't take long..

and the only one who hasent used the shape tool is griffen so far.. J used the flower one tongue.gif

I don't think anyone can say they never take atleast 4,000 hours to find a font that is even decent for what they vision or want. :/

Nice job bstbwlraround. Just a quick critique though...get rid of the rose thats cut off at the bottom, kind of makes it look like a sig or something.

Thanks for all the responses so far smile.gif.

I won't go so far as to critique individual logos at this point, but here's a bit more feedback on what scores points.

1) good horizontal use - remember it'll have to go as the header of a website

2) you don't need to shout 'simply spa' to say 'simply spa'. http://r-industries.net/ae%20art.png while using a default brush was one of the logos that made me thing about opening this competition here.

3) 'natural' colours are good

4) cohesiveness and simplicity are good. an icon or iconic design generally makes the difference between straight up text and a 'logo', the more the two come across co-joined the better.

5) sans-serif or unfussy fonts get marks too blush.gif

hope that helps - just want to say that i'm very happy to have so much of a response, so quickly.

You're in really good hands here,Discontinuity. As I expected, mattyk and Griffin, you guys are putting out the to notch quality logos, as always. Pro is giving you guys a run for your money too though. Looks like the heat has been turned up and this isn't a 2 hourse race anymore ohmy.gif

Nice logos by everyone so far. Tip-Hat.gif
Ben
Havent been much in the logo designing mood today, but this is what concepts I came up with:

I dont like them very much, do I'll be doing some more.
mattyK
here's the next entry

edit: wasn't 100% satisfied with the result, so I decided to give this style 2 variants

Babyface
hmm... nice stuff here, as I joined the last logo competition I guess I ll try this one too! Means an hour back to the drawing bord though tongue.gif. I never start a logo befor one hour of thinking smile.gif.
Discontinuity
like the way you changed to colours on that third logo MattyK, helped it 'hang together' smile.gif

Everyone: you might want to take a look at sites like Arran Aromatics, Linden Leaves etc as it's a site selling Brand name products - i'll dig out some of the brands that reflect the market sector.
