this mite seem to be a really doubt....i am jst a newbie...how do you remove vocals(or rather split vocals and the rest) from an audio clip.........
Oimi
This is an interesting topic, I too have often wondered how (if possible) this can be done.

If anyone knows, I would be really grateful if you could tell us.
Marc
I can't think of any way to do it without access to an original, multi-track recording. If you're talking about using somwthing like an MP3 or .wav file, then there's not much you can do cleanly since everything basically gets flattened into one wave form.
UnderAttak
you can do it with Pro Tools LE with one of the plug-ins. i highly doubt you can do something like that with soundforge or audition. it won't come out cleanly, but it roughly works.

You would also need the artist's permission to take apart his work.
Oimi
So you say that this can definitely be done using Pro Tools LE?

Removing vocals is not as simple as you may think and it is not really possible to removed them completely from a mastered or mixed down track.
The first thing you have to consider is that the human voice has many frequencies and one of these is bound to be within the range of one of the instruments in the track. Separating them is not an easy job if at all completely possible.
You could use compression to remove some of them, but you would need a good analyzer to hunt out the frequencies you want to compress or cutoff. PSP would be the best compressor and waves bundle would have the best analyzer.

But before you even start you will have to have written permission from the vocalist, producer and label that released it in writing.

With audio editor like FlexiMusic Wave Editor, using options like Band Pass/Stop Filter or channel mix, can eliminate the vocals to some extend, but completely removing the vocals is not possible.
