As I type this, the server is busy sending out our first online newsletter to over 12,000 people! I'm really excited about this and I hope you guys like the format and what we plan to bring to the newsletter in the coming weeks and months. If you have any comments or suggestions for future newsletters, please let me know and for those of you that aren't subscribed, you can do so by using the form on the homepage on the right side.

Thanks again!

Already read it, its awesome victory.gif

Suggestion though, I think there should be a section for like industry news or something, web news, newest products online etc... just a suggestion. whoosh[1].gif

Oh, and given that you are into predator stuff, i would have thought you could have come up with something more imaginative than "dans den" ph34r.gif

other than that, awesome victory.gif

Thanks smile.gif As far as industry news goes, we won't really be going too nuts as this is a P2L newsletter for the latest news and happenings on the site and the community, and our focus isn't really on reporting news outside of that scope. We'll be looking into expanding our focus this summer as you guys will see, but the primary goal of the newsletter is to keep people informed about P2L and the community, catch gossip and special exclusives and get an easy heads up on cool tutorials, contests and other things you may miss out on from other areas of the site.

But yeah, stay tuned to the newsletter for announcements on new stuff we've got planned.

Haha... would "Dan's Cave of Slaughter" be more your style? ninja.gif

Looks good so far, I would add some design aspects to it, like new section headers and a sweet newsletter logo smile.gif

Good work Pixel2life Staff!

For the time being, the Newsletter is text based only to ensure everyone can view it properly and it can be read offline smile.gif This is actually why more and more people are swicthing back to text based newsletters.

I really liked it but i'd prefer it if it were like IGN's newsletter's (with images) (=
Case
Ace, just the quality I would expect from P2L victory.gif

Maybe you could add a Site of the Month, not tutorial contents or anything but just a really well designed a nice looking site. Sort of inspiration smile.gif

where is the online newsletter going to be ?.. mah bad.. i'm not good at reading
raidsilver
I read it this afternoon and it was excellent.

I was expecting some sort of graphics. A design. The whole PLAIN TEXT thing shocked me, actually. I've never seen something P2L be all text.

Is there anything planned in the future for a graphical newsletter?

If Web 2.0 was a company, their newsletter would be like this..

Simple, no images, fast loading, a great read, thats all I needed victory.gif

Yea, its more pleasing to the eye with a graphic every once in awhile.
Bug
Even just a small style would suite the newsletter well... but yeah, I understand why you left it text-based

Ditto, majority have html email disabled anyways, plain text is fine with me but would like to see an online copy of the newsletter as well much the same as photoshopsupport.com does.
drcrazy4
You bought the newsletter out on my Birthday!!! Cheers Dan bigwink.gif.

One problem is that all the tutorials are Photoshop. If you want old members returning to the website they might not if they're looking for a site offering Flash, PHP help etc. and they think P2L is just Photoshop based.

Maybe you could offer an option for a graphical newsletter...
Case
The best compropmise might be to offer a link at the top to a graphical online version and leave the e-mail itself as text only.
SebLev
yeah what Case said... I was a bit shoked seeing a text base letter... Guess I'm just to used to seeing all the other graphics sites news letter.... still nice content tho..
Trix06
Just a suggestion, it would be nice to have it so that it is more graphical and nicely formatted like some of the big PC news sites eg www.pcworld.com send out. Is this a possibilities or something you guys are currently working on.

I'd love to see a more P2L theme. Maybe more colours used?

Guys, the reason we have a text based newsletter is so that EVERYONE can read the newsletter. If we was to send a HTML newsletter and someone did not have a HTML compatible email client.. there stuffed.

w00t.gif Much to learn young one.
http://www.webcheatsheet.com/php/send_emai...chment.php#html

edit: Should also point out I actually prefer plain text, but perhaps add links to the different sections just to avoid some 'blind scrolling'.

(Including the difference between "there" and "they're" might i add bigwink.gif)
Matt
Faken
There are multiple reasons why this is text based for the time being smile.gif

Who doesn't have an email that can't do that? Gmail is free.
Faken
Guys it's easy... the purpose of text based email is that it loads faster, can be read offline and can be read on mobiles and some people do block HTML content in their mail. Text based emails are statistically proven to be read by more people than HTML based ones, have less a chance of getting nuked by junkmail filters and over all convert better on content.

OOOOOOKay? bigwink.gif

Dan
SimplicityDesigns
And if you do decide to go with an HTML newsletter, be sure to include many animated gifs and a scrolling rainbow background. Lots of Comic Sans too. How pleased we'd all be.

This will be in it at least 10 times per newsletter:

Stu
where can we find this if it wasnt emailed to us then?

If you ask us, we will resend you a copy. Although you should of received it.

Nice Newsletter!

Question though...about the links to purchase software. If I click on a link and buy anything will you get a cut? The reason I ask is b/c I'm not sure if I'm buying Dreamweaver CS3 of the Web Standard CS3 upgrade this week...if I get the upgrade I would love for P2L to get the credit.

Hey Arch,

Yes if you use our links we get a comission so if you do buy it, use our link and I will love you forever and ever heartpump.gif bigwink.gif

Stu - I'm sending you a copy smile.gif

Matthew.
Would it be a good idea to keep an online copy of the newsletter? Would save having to resend it to x many people each time the thing is released. Maybe even an RSS feed of past/present? I know it's just meant to be a basic newsletter, but a little something like that might prove handy.

The newsletter goes out to everyone that is signed up, so if you're not getting it, you need to check your mail/spam settings, whitelist newsletter@pixel2life.com etc... there are exclusive tips, offers and contests for newsletter subscribers, so there won't be an online version. Membership has it's privledges bigwink.gif

So if you're not getting it, you need to check your mail settings or contact you ISP and ask them why they are nuking mail from P2L. Also bear in mind some of your guys use box trappers that require confirmation from the sender. You need to whitelist us or the newsletter will never get through.

Oh...I'm buying one...just not sure which one yet smile.gif Still waiting for my boss to get back to me on whether or not I can gank our companies copy of Studio MX so I can get the CS3 upgrade. I "think" I nearly have him talked into it.

Oh...and graphics or not...I still enjoy the newsletter smile.gif
Bug
I'm not saying that I don't enjoy the newsletter... it would just be a bit more appealing for some of us if it had at least SOME text formatting in it tongue.gif

I must say though, Faken's been getting more bad hits about it than good ones lol - I'm sure we all agree that your newsletter was fantastic, Dan smile.gif
Archangel
My ONLY suggestion (doesn't even required graphics!) would be anchor tags so we can click on the index at the top and go straight to that section.

By the way...I just ordered the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Standard Upgrade suite by clicking on your link so you should be getting some commission coming through.

I find it quite amusing how I've been signed up to receive the newsletter for years, without any sign of one coming, yet when one is sent, I still don't get the bloody thing. I was told by another member who received it... Great job guys.
Faken
PM me your email if you want and I can take a peek. But again bear in mind pretty much anyone that didn't get it is getting it zapped by spam filters.

Dan
Stu
i got the second one friday...

to be perfectly honest though, although i know it's a work in progress, i find it quite boring. i dont mean the text format, that doesnt bother me at all, but on a whole the newsletter just seems to lacking anything that could be considered 'interesting' to me. only exception being possibly the ask dan section... which incidentally has so far only covered two questions which were already asked and answered extensively in the forums here, rendering it slightly pointless to me personally though i know that is not the case for all. the top five tutorials doesnt do it for me either, although theyre good tutorials... surely if we wanted to find out how to do something then we would search the database for it, but heh i guess that last point is debatable too, depending on how you do things.

i know you have a purpose for this newsletter, but i still cant help but feel that this should be based mroe around the graphics/web design community as a whole rather than just p2l, with reviews and interviews - the whole lot. even making it a monthly thing that people will enjoy reading and look forward too, rather than a 2 minute skim read once a week. hopefully you will be implementing alot of the idea from this whole thread in the near future.

anyways, sorry if this seems a bit brutal and premature. but im not one to hold back my thoughts so im just calling it as i see it.
R3ViV3D
I really liked it. Since i joined i always wanted to get more informed about P2L. Thanks staff victory.gif

Those were exactly my thoughts... I expected a html formatted email that resembled P2L, would be great to see something like that in the future. I see what everyone is saying about why its text based and stuff but it just doesn't seem P2L... an option to receive either html format or text would be the best solution.
SatanicPenguins
Yeah exactly ^, P2L is such a good looking site and all.

Then i opened the newsletter and Faken's kicking it 1995 style with ***** and >>>>
i was just like "awesomeeee" lol.

At the bare minimum need to be able to click up top on the index and zip down to whichever you're wanting to read like other have said, and atleast some ASCII art lol. like a decently sized (500x250) P2L made out of dots and commas.
