Alright so I've been asked to host the next 3D contest and I've gladly accepted. Before we start off though, I just wanted to get a bit of feed back from people too see exactly what style of contest we should have. By that I mean, Should we stick with the original style where we just tell you a theme and you do something in that category or should we change it up a bit.

What I was thinking of is maybe trying a new approach to these contests. Here me out if you will.

A couple ideas in my head were to try and touch different parts of 3D so that we can make the contest more of a learning experience.

I was thinking maybe one of the things we could do is. I give you a scene already and you guys texture it and light it how ever you want. You could also add your own touches to it if you'd like. Also, I could help you as you go along if you need it or I could show you to some tutorials and what not. Another idea was, maybe even we can have a rigging or a animation contest.

My main focus right now is to try and create more of a contest where you will get something out of it. Personally this is how I improve my skills all the time. It's through pure practice and if we can bring that in a contest, it would make it all that much funner to learn.

But yeah, this thread is just to see what you guys think about this and if maybe you have a different approche you want to take. Any suggestion or feedback would be great.

Animation gets my vote smile.gif
SebLev
Yeah, I kind of want to practice my animation skills also... Well I'll leave this thread up for a one or 2 more weeks and if we get no feedback or nothing I'll just start up a contest of what I think it should be on.
SHIVMOO
Yeah, it kinda kills the drive doesn't it.

If it's just the 2 of us it will be better to make it more specific so we can directly compare.

I'll probably enter something if you start up a contest, count me in (assuming I don't die during the college application process lol).

you up to doing an animation contest though? Because that's what I'm kind of leaning towards right now...
Ecrouch
Sure, animation sounds good.  The more specific a theme you can come up with the better, I have a terrible time just thinking things up haha
SebLev
haha alright sounds good... also I'll try and get a bunch of links tp free rigs that people could use!
SHIVMOO
rigs tend to be more application specific than models (yay for .obj) so you might have trouble finding one for xsi.. if so i will get maya le to join in as i have to learn it anyway for my course
SebLev
What course are you taking Shiv? and yeah I guess that's true about the rigs... well I'll find as much as I can for different programs also if anything....

but yeah The competition will start Monday and I'll have a little set that I will make quick for you guys to use and I'll give you all the details then!

So....I've been gone a while, like maybe 4 or 5 years?! Are these comps still going on, like this one for an animation? Any plans for new competitions in the near future? I've been out of 3d for a while but I'd probably enjoy picking it back up again.

BTW the site has come a long way since a few years back, it looks good!

>Edit< Wow I'm still member #29 haha I'm suprised I am still in the system!
