Hello Guys,
I would like to know details about text messaging application to provide sender with answer, updates, or other type of information. For example, when you send a message to the number 99999, they will send you a the result for the MLB games.
I don't know anything about this topic. I am just trying to expand my knowledge about this field. I have very good skills in Java, PHP, VB, and C++. I have been trying to search around the internet for this. However, I don't know what do I need to look for. I have been looking for SMS gateways, but I don't know if this is what I should look for. I would like to know about SMS number providers, programming language I should use to create application, etc.
I hope someone can help me with this.

Hmm, very interesting, I've thought about doing something like that myself, would be really cool. I would love to text my home computer and have it send me personalized info I want, lol. I would make a parser of Google queries for my phone that doesn't have internet access...
Anyways, my quick search yielded an open source project for Linux that sounds like something useful: Kannel.

I would be kind of interested in checking into the Kannel myself. The other one though passes the message through the provider's email gateway then passes it to the SMSC, I work for a mobile provider and I have found that is unreliable at best. Not sure about other providers but I know for T-Mobile you can block SMS from the email if you so desired.
Getting a short code from a provider is the most reliable method to ensure the message arrives to handheld. If you're needing it for personal use then this is not such a big deal though.

I am interested in Short code providers. I might be interested in a share number so that I don't have to paid that much. Can you tell me some short code providers.
