First off, type out the text you want to make a gradient.

Break it apart twice,(Right click>Break apart), then, using the ink bottle tool, outline all of the letters.

Then, delete the text, aving only the outline.

Then, Create the gradient you want the text to be.

Move the outline of the text over the rectangle, and delete the rest.

Delete the outline, and you're finished!
