Move To A New Layer
Tired of manually cutting and pasting or copying and pasting objects from one layer to another? With this tutorial, you will learn how to quickly move and copy objects to a new layer with a simple mouse move!
STEP ONE
Let's say, for example, that you have 4 objects on Layer 1. If you don't see your Layers palette go to Window > Layers.

Now what if you wanted to move two of the objects from Layer 1 to Layer 2? You could select the objects, go to Edit > Cut, select Layer 2, and then go to Edit > Paste. That takes a few steps to do though. Here's an easier way to do it.
Select the objects you'd like to move. Notice that in the Layers palette there's a small icon appearing. This signifies that you have one or more objects selected:

Click and drag that icon from Layer 1 to Layer 2. The selected objects will move from Layer 1 to Layer 2!

STEP TWO
What if you want to make a duplicate of the objects you have selected and move them to a new layer? All you have to do is hold down the Alt key while dragging! The selected objects will be copied from Layer 1 to Layer 2!
