Adobe Photoshop

This is a tutorial in how to design a laptop from scratch using Adobe Photoshop.

The laptop what I will try to design was taken from Dell's laptops page.

Start by creating a new document of 640 x 480 pixels.

Select the rectangular marquee tool and choose Fixed Style with 449px width and 291px Height.

Click on the screen to draw a rectangular

From the top menu, go to Select -> Modify -> Smooth

Select a sample radius of 20 pixels and press ok.

Use the Paint bucket tool and paint the selected area with the colour of your choice.

Go to Select -> Deselect so you can deselect the selected area.
Go to Layer -> Layer Style -> Blending Options
Tick the Drop Shadow option, change the Spread and Distance to 0 and set the Size 1

Tick the Inner Shadow option, change the Spread and Distance to 0 and set the Size 6

Tick the Gradient Overlay change the Angle to -145 and Press on the Gradient colour bar.

Add three colour points and set their colours to: 3c3f48 232428 545760 (Starting from right to left)

Choose a desktop image that you want, resize it and place it on the middle of the screen.
The Desktop image that I use had 216px Height and 236px Width.
Select the Desktop Image by pressing control and click on its layer

Then go to the screen layer and delete the selected area.

Using the rectangular marquee tool with Fixed Style of 517px width and 20px Height,
make a rectangular selection right bellow the screen,
go to Select -> Modify -> Smooth give it 5px smoothness and paint the selected area with the colour of your choice

Again, using the rectangular marquee tool with Fixed Style of 517px width and 40px Height,

Go to Select -> Modify -> Smooth give it 16px smoothness and paint the selected area with the colour of your choice

Now, try to move and merge the layers one above the other so the result will look like the picture bellow.

Go to Layer -> Layer Style -> Blending Options
Tick the Gradient Overlay option, add 7 points as seen bellow and set their colours to 070707 32353a 000000 32353a 27282d 32353a 5f6065 (Starting from Left to Right)

Duplicate the body layer, go to Edit -> Free transform and reverse it so it will look like the image bellow

On the same layer, Go to Layer -> Layer Mark -> Reveal all, choose the Brush with the black coluor selected
and try to paint the bottom part so they final result will look like this:
I have also downloaded the Dell logo in psd format from here

I'm curious to see how you would do it! go to laptop deals page, choose your favourite laptop and paste your results in here.Good Luck!
