Well here is two photos I took today. They are of the same spot just two different shutter speeds.

This picture shows the river full of power and strenght. I had my shutter speed set to 1/60 of a second on this picture. Thats about as fast as I could go with the lighting. So its not as powerful as I would like the river to look.

Strong and powerful

This is the same picture, just with the shutter speed set to 1.3 seconds. The shutter speed is left open a bit longer and creates a soft, calm feel to the picture. This is my favorite out of the two. I like this smooth look.

Well you tell me which do you prefer?

Enjoy my P2L friends.

I like the slow shutter speed effect you have going on there, but it looks like too much depth of field in the second one.

Thanks guys. I'm glad you like them both.

it looks like too much depth of field in the second one.

Now you have me wondering about this. The aperture was set at 5.6, so this is a fairly narrow field of depth.

I guess I'm not understanding what you see in the picture. Maybe you could explain a bit more. The aperture is almost set perfect for what I was trying to achieve in this photo.

Thanks again for your comments d7x and Fcuk!. It's neat that you both like the other picture.

Best Regards,

I think it just appears that way because the water is moving less in the bottom corner, so it doesn't blur as much, I think it's giving me that feeling. Still a good photo.

Oh ok. The reason why it looks like that is because the water is moving really slow in the bottom corner. At 1.3 second shutter speed is not slow enough to make all the water have that soft look to it. I didn't want to try any slower of a shutter speed, other wise I would have overexposed the picture.

I'm glad you do really like it. I really like it for that very reason. It was neat how it turned out with this slower moving water.

Thanks again.

Best Regards,

Jason

Dry Ice. Now thats something I never thought about. Well its the effect I was trying to go for on this picture. Im glad you like it.

Well here is another one I did kind of like this first one except the whole river has that soft effect. What do you think about this one?

Best Regards,

Jason

I prefer the powerful one, but the last one you posted makes it look more surreal... almost imaginary

:) I'm glad you like the first one. But about this last one I posted, it is my favorite. It does have a imaginary look to it. Thanks again for the nice comment Jaymz.
