Well, this is my first post on this forum, so here goes:
There are that many names for them, but, once you see one, you'll know what they are.
If you want to see what they'll look like once you've finished scroll right down to the bottom of this post.
Let's begin the tutorial.
These, the first few steps, are simple, so no images will be provided, but from then onwards, images will be given, for help and support.
1. Open Fireworks.
2. Make a new document, with a transparent background, with the setings:
Width: 350
Height: 19
Resolution: 72
All these are in pixels.
Next, grab a hold of your rectangle tool, and make the rectangle the exact sizes of your document. (350x19 pixels)
Choose two colours, for the one at the bottom of this post, we'll be using the lighest gray, and a normal blue. As this matches the forums colour. Make them as a linear gradient, adding a 1 pixel stroke to your rectangle too. Next change the gradient, so the light gray is at the top, and the blue is at the bottom. If you don't know how to do this, or are un-sure please click this link to find a tutorial, on how to change the gradient.
This next step is optional. Applying scanlines, look at more or less the bottom of the program, where it says "Texture" Click it, and scroll down until you get the following.
Applying this, to around 50% or whatever looks good, to you.
Now we shall add the glassy effect. Click the Oval Marquee Tool, and draw an oval over the top of your image so far. Give the oval the settings on "Feather = 1" so it looks smooth. Fill it with a solid fill of #666666 and no texture, and change the blending option to "Screen" (which you can find, in the layer management)
So far, you should have something similar to:
Note: Image is bad quality as it's quicker for the dialup users.
Now add the two or three letters in the left corner, get your text tool, use a pixel font, I'm using visitor, which can be found from here. Then:
Right Click
Go to Numeric Transformation, then rotate, and enter the number 83 (you might want to experiment yourself, it depends on how many letters sometimes), press OK, and as you can see your text on an angle. It looks very unsmooth so, give it a smooth anti-alias.
Next, add your normal text, bring the glassy layer to the top, and then, you're finished!
Your final result should look like something at the bottom of this post.
Sorry for all the links, it's just I posted this at my own forum.
