Is it worth getting? I've found a site for students and can get for a very good price, but just wondered what people's opinions and experiences of it were...

If you have photoshop CS.. then stay with it.. there is not really a need to upgrade for CS2 it just uses more memory and CPU then the older ones :)

some great features in CS2, i'd only advise upgrading if your going to use them or are designing things regulary

for example the smart objects feature i use on nearly every document i open

No, you can buy it and install it without previous versions.

I would deffinately reccomend CS2, if you can get it for under like $300.

there isnt much difference between 7 - CS2

appearence wise 7 - CS look the same, but then on CS2 they put in some under shadows and tweeked it up a bit.

Also as the verisions increase so does the amout of effects / features

I love cs2 because you can merge layers which is cool and merge all, I don't recall being allowed to lol

Between 7 and CS2 there aren't too many differences. Between CS and CS2 there are even fewer. I personally hate Adobe Bridge. It takes forever to launch and its no more functional than the file browser in CS except for the stock images search, but that's what Google is for, right? I'd stay with 7 or CS if you have them, but if you have none you have no other option but CS2. CS isn't for sale anywhere anymore.

I was going to upgrade, but I decided to hang on to my money. The new features in CS2 don't justify the price, at least that's what I believe.

I'm happy with just regular CS.
