Hello All,

Re-coded and fixed up errors in different browsers. Please let me know what you think now.
Also, a new "logo" and header are on their way as soon a as friend is finished with them.

Been working on my design/layout for gift basket site. Please let me know what you guys think
and/or any suggestions you may have. All comments/suggestions welcome.

Link here

I'm thinking it needs a nice textured background to accent it more.

I should also mention that the header is NOT complete. I've just put those links there
more or less as a marker. I'll have a more graphical header with image links as soon
as I have the HQ pictures of the baskets in.

Thanks in advance.
X

The structure is great. You got the navigation links and category links in the right place. But I don't like design. I can tell your a beginner by how you built the site. I use to build sites like that :-). ( The whole webpage is a table. Borders are cells in a table ect)

You still have things to learn about design, html and css ect.

Thanks for the feedback Doc. Yes, I've used tables mainly because I'm not comfortable enough
with using CSS, layers etc. Call me old school. :D

You mentioned that you don't like design. I respect you comment so I'm wondering if you mean the
look of the design or how it's coded?

If you have any further suggestions I'd love to read it.

Thanks again for your comments.

It's good for a start. I like the structure you've used too, but your site looks weird in the browsers I use (my resolution is 1024x768).
Example:

Firefox 1.5.0.5
Attached File  screen1.jpg   62.08KB   168 downloads

IE 6.0
Attached File  screen2.jpg   210.6KB   140 downloads

Also I'd recommend you not to use serif fonts as Times New Roman. Try Arial, Verdana or other sans-serif font, it will look more professional.
But your layout looks good so far, good job, and please keep us updated :(

Thanks PSG.

I should have check cross browser before uploading :)

The reason the is the font size is stretching the tables. I should have
paid more attention to the minor thing before posting I suppose :)

I'll tweak it some more and post some updates for further reviews if you all do't mind.

Thanks again for advice, feedback, comments etc..

Please keep them coming.

Okay folks...

I finally had a little bit of time to get back on this project. It's only about 10% done but
I recoded and fixed the layout a little bit. Please post some opinions.

Thanks again,
Paul

i like the logo :) . the colour scheme works, but to me, the tables don't. what are the links? category or information? if category, where will the information links go? i'd love to see the to grad. box have links in the bottom of it and an image of gift baskets in the top, to show me why the product is unique. The centered text doesn't do it for me, i'd left align and/or justify with some padding if necessary.

get a picture or two in the text and show me what font or style you're using for headers please :)

typography will make or break this site :(

i'd be happy if i was only 10% there and it looked like this.

Site looks great, but one thing I had a problem with (1280x768) was the header. It's a wee bit too small IMO...the script text gets blurred. Otherwise, this is a great simple, functional design.

Thank you so much for the replys. I was hoping more people would chime in.

Finished up some more stuff and made some changes based on some suggestions.
Please let me know if I'm still missing something. The basket images you see
are only samples of pic's I took from google. We are still having the photos of
our baskets taken and they're not ready yet.

Looking forward to some more comments.

Here's the link again so you won't have to scroll back up.

Thanks again!

I must say you have improved the design a lot. :)
I like the new menu style, altought you should check the design in IE6.0, menu displays at the bottom of the page.
Also the header image looks a bit empty, but as I've said, you've done a great work there :)

I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the header... As for the links. Is your suggestions to not have the entire <td> rolloever and instead just have the box on the left rollover?

Thanks for replying.

The header I'm still thiking about. Need more imput from the "customer" lol aka my wife on what she exactly will need there. As far as the fonts. I'm not sure if you're asking me what font was used for the logo on the top left? Or you're just wondering what I'll be doing for the header.

typography will make or break this site ;)

Its nice, but its to plain, if your trying to sell a product, your site really does have to captivate the viewer into staying on your site for longer and browsing it.

needs to be brighter more fun looking.

Funny you mention that. I was just on http://www.w3schools.com/ reading up on all that fun stuff.
I'll continue to clean up the code as I go along. I still have so much to do and only get about an hour a week
to work on it. I also own a dry cleaner so I have limited time to get caught up and update the site as well.

I'm going to be needing a way to set up a shopping cart. I'm thinking of just using pay-pal's shopping cart system as I don't have the time to learn how to set one up. If anyone is experienced in this please PM if you willing and able to help me.

EDIT: Fixed the header images as you suggested, myoto.

Thanks,
Paul

nice so far, just as a space filler, not fancy adding a search facility to the right hand side of the border in the space? or maybe some testimonial quotes with low opacity to just give a bit more depth and appeal??
