Hi all!

This is my first tutorial on this forum.
I'm going to show you how to create a poster like they were in the 50's.

I hope you like it!

Ok, first choose an image you want to use.
I used this one:

Attached File  1.jpg   265.91KB   159 downloads

We start by desaturating the image
Press ctrl + shift + u

Attached File  2.jpg   219.41KB   141 downloads

Now go to filter > artistic > cutout
I used these settings, but try to experiment

number of levels: 8
edge simplicty: 0
edge fidelity: 3

Attached File  3.jpg   249.47KB   133 downloads

You can always change the level settings for a better look, but this isn't necessary with this image

Now we're going to add some color

Create a new empty layer

Fill it with a color, I used this one: #F6C224

Change the blending of your new layer, I changed it to linear burn, find out what's the best for your image

This is what you get:

Attached File  4.jpg   332.69KB   129 downloads

If you want, you can add some text to finish it

Attached File  5.jpg   346.16KB   161 downloads

For those who are interested, the name of this font is LittleLordFontleroy

That was it!

If you want to get more results, try creating more layers with different colors,
play with the levels, blending and the cutout settings.

Greetings!

Dimitri Proost
