Hey everyone. I know some of these questions may be fairly stupid and I hope that I post this in the right area if not then please move it where it needs to go.

But anyways I have been running my website for a couple of years now just for fun and posting my work and what not. But when I look at my stats on Awstats I think it is called, I have several categories like the one's below....

Number of visits
Unique visitors
Pages
Hits

I was curious which one of those I need to look at to see how many people are coming to my site and everything, I usually just look at number of visits but I have been reading around here of people getting 28000 clicks and what not so Im a little confused. Also does anyone have any good articles or tutorials on how I update my site for SEO and where do I place keywords and meta keys and such? Again sorry for the long post but I hope someone can answer my questions.....Thanks

Number of visits will be how many visits you get to your site (return or new)
Unique visitors will be how many new people hit your site (although this is necessarily accurate)
Pages will be how many pages have been viewed
And hits...yeah, it's early and I forget.

Sometimes the built in stuff can be pretty hard to read. I would recommend looking into implementing Google Analytics. It's free to sign up for/use and it provides a lot more data in a lot easier formats to read.

Thanks for that link! It was really helpful! I just put meta tags into my pages with keywords and what not. Now what do they mean by semantical markup? Sorry for the stupid questions.

After putting keywords in meta, you have to put title and a little description in the meta as well. If you are looking to optimize your site higher an expert.
