I know what Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver are for. I'm just wondering what Fireworks is for. All I know is that it works with bitmaps and vectors, but that's about it. Can anyone give me more information on it?

Fireworks can also do simple animations as well as slice images to be ready for the web.

So basically Photoshop and Flash can do whatever Fireworks does, it's just that Fireworks is a more convenient approach to the same methods and is a bit more limited?

fireworks is easier to learn. Thus people who don't need all the photo editing power and rediculous ui, will use fireworks. A couple guys I works with use it because they don't do much designing, but they do a lot of image editing. So they don't want to have to learn photoshop and all of its 4 key shortcuts just to edit a picture.

Fireworks is a good alternative to other programs if you have brought the Studio 8 package. People would rarely buy Fireworks on it's own, it's just not worth it.
