I remember there being an option to render a portion of the video to play it back inside premiere pro. I've got some action going on with effects here and the playback is not realtime. Where can i find the option to let premiere pro pre-render a section?

I can't remember off the top of my head in premiere, but in after effects it's the spacebar. It plays through a section to render it first pass then second pass it plays full rendered in real time. Try that or maybe the period key.

See the section "how the render bars relate to playback commands" about halfway through this article:
http://blogs.adobe.c...ender-bars.html

It doesn't work like After Effects; it doesn't render frames that are cached in RAM. Rather, it creates preview files on disk. There's more information here.
