I am trying to get this text to Fade in so I put the text in a text box and converted it to a symbol from there. It did convert to a symbol but when ever I try to do the first frame 0% opacity and the last frame 100% opacity and tween it, it wont fade in? but if I make it an image and import it from PS and convert the .jpg of the text to a symbol and do the same it works fine. what gives? am I doing this wronge? did I find a glitch in Flash MX 04 Pro? thanks in advanced

Well I just opened up flash and tested it and it works fine. Just make sure you make the text box, then convert to a symbol. Then click the symbol and in the properties window on the right, select alpha and change that to 0. Then insert a keyframe somewhere else down the timeline and set the alpha on that frame to 100. Then select a frame inbetween them and put a motion tween on it.

Hope this helps.

Make sure that the text symbol is in both the beginning of your tween and the end of it. What I'm thinking may be the problem is that you converted the text into a symbol AFTER you made a keyframe, thus only one of the ends was a symbol and the other was still a text box.

Sorry but you didn't find a glitch in Flash  It's probably just a common mistake that we all make from time to time.

What i would do to sum it up quickly is take my symbol and place it on frame #1. then on frame 30 ( or whatever ) press F6. then once that is done on frame 30 ( or whatever ) select your symbol then go into properties then alpha and set to 0. then click any frame between 1 and 29 then go properties and then motion tween.

I am having this same problem, and I have tried everything posted above. Any other ideas on how to fix this issue?

Here Ill give a step by step tutorial on how to fix this problem (sorry as this is just at the top of my head):

1) Create new layer.
2) Type out your desired text. (choose font, size, etc.. at this point)
3) Click it, press F8 (convert to symbol), select graphic.
4) Create a keyframe and create another one, lets say 30 frames along.
5) Select that frame (30 frames along) and go to properies.
6) Select "Alpha" and drag the bar down to zero.
7) Get out of properties and R-Click somewhere between these two keyframes.
8) Select create motion tween.

It should now work!
Hope this helped....

I just tried that exactly step by step, and still got the same results. I know how to do it with jpeg files that I'm importing and everything... it's just not working for the text. The text will fade on the stage, but when I go to 'Test Movie' or even watch it on the internet, the text never fades. When I go to 'Test Movie' the text can even be highlighted as if it was still text in a word file or something to that effect. I don't think it's completely changing it into a graphic symbol because it can be highlighted as text, and it's not changing the alpha layer on the motion tween on the final project, it only does on the stage. It's really frustrating
