What did I do differently?

-Added a strand of hair accross the hair (symbolising stress - untame hair.)
-Changed the lightsource that changed shadows and higlighted areas.
-Added a tear


I used:

-Illustrator
-4 hours
-A reference pic
-No tutorials

Neither can I, I almost gave up because it looked like it wasn't going anywhere, but I kept going adding more and more detail (no layer has more than 40% opacity :S -except of course the base layer for skin and hair and shirt)

im guessing u lowered the opacity of ur layers or something... i guess it looks pretty kool never seen this type of style of vector, but it does seem a little awkward seeing all those layers overlap each other.

Thanks for the comments,

I like the lowered opacity effect, I think it creates luminosity which the skin has. Skin isn't one colour you know :D
