Animations - Turn On or Off in Windows 8

How to "Turn off all unnecessary animations" in Windows 8 and 8.1

The Turn off all unnecessary animations (when possible) option is for animation effects, such as fading effects, when you close windows and other elements.

If you have a slower or overloaded PC, then turning off animations can help improve your system's performance some.

This tutorial will show you how to turn on or off playing animations in your user account in Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows 8.1, and Windows RT 8.1.





OPTION ONE

Turn On or Off Play Animations in Windows in Control Panel



Note   Note
Applying any changes made in the Ease of Access Center will automatically reset your visual effects settings back to default.


1. Open the Control Panel (icons view), and click/tap on the Ease of Access Center icon.​
2. Click/tap on either link below in the Ease of Access Center. (see screenshot below)​
  • Use the computer without a display
  • Make the computer easier to see
  • Make it easier to focus on tasks

3. Do step 4 or 5 below for what you would like to do.​
4. To Turn On All Unnecessary Animations
NOTE: This is the default setting.​
A) Uncheck the Turn off all unnecessary animations (when possible) box, click/tap on OK, and go to step 6 below. (see screenshot below)​
5. To Turn Off All Unnecessary Animations
A) Check the Turn off all unnecessary animations (when possible) box, click/tap on OK, and go to step 6 below. (see screenshot below)​

6. You can now close Ease of Access Center if you like.​





OPTION TWO

Turn On or Off Play Animations in Windows 8.1 in PC settings


NOTE: This option is only available in Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1.
1. In Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1, open PC settings, and click/tap on Ease of Access on the left side. (see screenshot below)​

2. Click/tap on Other options on the left side of "Ease of Access", and do step 3 or 4 below for what you would like to do. (see screenshot below)​

3. To Turn On Play Animations in Windows
NOTE: This is the default setting.​
A) Under Visual options on the right side, move the slider to the right to turn it on., and go to step 5 below. (see screenshot below step 2)​
4. To Turn Off Play Animations in Windows
A) Under Visual options on the right side, move the slider to the left to turn it off., and go to step 5 below. (see screenshot below step 2)​
5. You can now close PC settings if you like.​
