Remmina is a remote desktop client written in GTK+, aiming to be useful for system administrators and travellers, who need to work with lots of remote computers in front of either large monitors or tiny netbooks. Remmina supports multiple network protocols in an integrated and consistant user interface. Currently RDP, VNC, XDMCP and SSH are supported.
Remmina is released with three separated packages:

* "remmina", the main GTK+ application
* "remmina-gnome", the GNOME desktop applet
* "remmina-xfce", the Xfce panel plugin

Remmina is free and open-source software, released under GNU GPL license.

Features

Remmina project comes with two separated packages.

The Remmina main program:

* A pure GTK+ 2.0 application!
* Maintain a list of remote desktop files, organized by groups
* Make quick connections by directly putting in the server name
* Remote desktops with higher resolutions are scrollable/scalable in both window and fullscreen mode
* Viewport fullscreen mode: remote desktop automatically scrolls when the mouse moves over the screen edge.
* Floating toolbar in fullscreen mode, allows you to switch between modes, toggle keyboard grabbing, minimize, etc.
* Tabbed interface, optionally managed by groups
* Supported network protocols: RDP, VNC, XDMCP, SSH, Avahi

The Remmina panel applets:

* Support GNOME and Xfce desktop environment in separated packages
* Open the main program or access preference dialog easily

I use mremote daily at work. I run ubuntu on one of my computers at home. I think this may give me the functionality that I have been missing with the rdesktop client.

I’m using Remmina about 2 months.
    This is a great tool.
I have about 20 servers to managage, I use different connection options for them so it makes about 50 different connections – remmina is the tool I was looking for very long (KDE has KRDC but gnome just simple terminal services klient)

    Mremote?
    This is windows software…
Do you run this on ubuntu?

I also use Remmina almost every day at work. I have to connect to many different customers’ computers and servers and this piece of software lets me keep all of those connections very organized. Highly recommended!

  5. Matt says:

So does this only support opening SFTP connections to servers and not SSH terminals?

  6. jason says:

will this work on ubuntu 8.04.x ?

  7. Ulf says:

@Matt: You’re right. For ssh terminal sessions, you may want to try sshmenu and it’s applet sshmenu-gnome. It is really great!

I need an open source application similar to secureCRT for connecting to linux servers and has the capability of saving user name and password.

I like the look of this … pretty similar to Gnome-RDP … but some nicer options. One suggestion: in windowed mode, there should be a way to hide that huge toolbar …. takes up too much realestate in my view. If it could hide like it does in full screen mode, that would be the bomb!

How can you pass command line options to Remmina. Like rdesktop supports: rdesktop -u username -p password. I want it to open a new tab everytime

  11. Remmina is great. Is there a way to save ssh password in it ?
I want to login with just one click

  12. Ulf says:

@Rozliczanie nfz: If you want instant ssh connections without typing passwords, put your public key into ~/.ssh/authorized_keys of the remote account. That way you will be able to authenticate without password with remmina as well as any other method. Of course, your ssh key may have a passphrase which may be cached by ssh-agent.

  13. Thomas says:

@Ahmed: Secure CRT is now available (as beta) for Linux.
