Introduction

When I first started with flixel I made a Hello World App with alittle tutorial, but when I searched the web I didn't find any furtherbasic tutorial, so i was forced to make a some test just reading the.API documentation, but this ain't easy for the new on the world ofgamedev. So I decided to make this tutorial so you get a little morebase before you jump in on the world of indie game Dev.

Flixel 2 !?!? Do I need a Fork or a Spoon !?!?

What's flixel 2? Getting all together

So what do we need?

Since flixel 2 it's written in as3 we only need an text editor andthe flash compiler but this tutorial it's for total beginners we will beusing Flashdevelop a free open source (MIT license) source code editor.Why flashdevelop? Simple, Because it is easy to setup. You can learnmore about flashdevelop at http://flashdevelop.org

Do we need anything more ? Yes, we need some graphic editor thatsupports transparency and .png export, i will be using photoshop in thistut but fell free to use any pther software i suggest gimp. You canlearn more about gimp at http://gimp.org

Installing Flasdevelop and the Flex SDK

First you need to download the Flashdevelop installer you get it here:http://www.flashdevelop.org/community/viewforum.php?f=1

Now you downloaded it go to folder location where you saved it and excute it and you should get something like this:

Click Next and you will be promped on a screen like this:

If you are new with flash/as3 develop you could leave it as it issince you dont have yet the flex SDK and the installer will download itfor you so then click next and you will be promped to enter where do youwant to install flashdevelop:

Select your destination folder and install it:

Now that you succesfully installed Flashdevelop you can go further.

Seting up flixel on Flashdevelop

So now we will get flixel set up on flashdevelop. This is easy!!!

Go and openup flash develop if you are using win 7 or vista you will need to run itas administrator so go to the flashdevelop shortcut and rigthclick->propierties-compatibility tab->run as administrator:

Double click the shortcut and tada!! You will get the app running. Yeaah!!
