hello peoples, I am taking Assembly language, and I need a linux emulator on my computer, does anyone know any? cygwin doesnt seem to like my computer and crashes whenever it opens, I have re-installed it many times, we can use any linux emulator, we just need one on our own computer, any help would be great :D

Hmm, I'm not very familiar with linux emulators, but have you tried a linux livecd? I know some distros have livecd's and you just boot them from cd and presto, instant linux OS. Good luck finding an emulator, sorry I couldn't help more.

Its basically a complete OS that runs off a cd :D

If you have Microsoft Virtual PC you can even run the linux live CD while still working on windows - Hope that helps :D

okay now...where do I get this virtual PC thingy :D cygwin runs just like a normal program on windows but it hates my computer, and cant really take my computer to school for help lol. So I am looking for a linux emulator that is easier to install :D

dont know of an emulator...if u have 2 hdd's then dual boot with linux...if not then get VMWare Workstation and a linux live cd...pop the cd in while in windows and boom uve got linux while on windows...

i've only used Knoppix live :popcorn:

I've used a couple of different live distro's... I like Knoppix the best... Depending on what you need to do, PHLAK Might work.. (Don't let what teh acronym stands for throw you off.) - Personal Hackers Linux Assault Kit. I've found that It has basic linux tasks, but then again I'm not sure what you'll need it for.

could you give like directions on where to go on the site, I clicked download Knoppix from http/ftp then it takes me to a list, I clicked ftp on the location nearest me, then what...? it gives me a huge list of files to download, which one do I choose :popcorn:

Choose the one which has EN on it unless you want the german(DE) version.
Choose the latest version - 3.9 I think :popcorn:
Filesize should be around 700MB
Also the filename would have the date of release on it - Download the latest version

hehe, it helped, I have it downloaded and extracted, and hmm how do I run it, it says burn to cd and say boot from cd when your computer starts up but thats a pain, is there another way?

No - unless you want to install onto ur hard drive and set up a dual boot ;)

Sorry if this doesnt help, but if this is school related, why doesnt your instructor give you help?
