Well as long as you guys aren't guilty of all ten at once I'm sure nobody will care. Oh, and about the small font size, well, not many really really old people with horrible eyesight are going to be looking at sites for web design. This was a great article though, it will definately help some of the junior designers to make some more user-friendly pages.

I am a little sick of Jacob Nielsen. He has some valid points, but tends to shoot out across the finish like most of the time. Example is Flash. Flahs isnot an annoyance. People who don't know how to use flash properly are annoyances. Look at Flickr for example. Flash enhances that website by millions.

Also his comments about fixed wisth layouts is open for discussion. P2L is fixed, but still looks great

he makes the point that flash is useless when it comes to most things like intro's... ad campaigns, pop-over ads, splash's, headers etc.

it can be used for good, but hes saying its used for crap too much

*raises hand* #9 for me, but I make them no larger than 770px so people using 800x600 resolution can view it the same as everyone else. Is that a bad thing though?

Same here as well...I just don't like the ugly purple it leaves when you click on it, and I'd rather keep it the same color after you click on it. I do have rollovers, and have it underlined though.

I agree with the font thing. I had to read a site wiht bright yellow text on a white background. It was like staring at the sun.

I agree with most things, not all things. I usually dont take web advice from ugly sites tho, such as useit.com (my personal opinion).

My favorite part about the article is that he doesnt follow his own rule number 2.. Look at the top left (first link)
http://www.useit.com...nographics.html is another funny page. I guess 99% of the sites suck to this guy.

I disagree with a lot of those points, the main one being Flash. Using Flash for navigation is in no way bad. Of course, using it for intros isn't the smartest thing to do (and it's really annoying), but the other things that were brought up are not "bad" IMO.

Also, the fixed width thing isn't really true either...the only thing that's bad about it is screen resolutions; if someone has a really high screen resolution, the website will look really small (although very few people have resolutions that are that high).

Differentiate visited and unvisited links.

I also disagree with that, because from my experiences, doing that makes everything look ugly, because all the links are different colors. It works all right if you only make a slight difference between the colors, but going from blue to purple or from underlined to overlined does not look good at all.

Ok, I'm done ranting. :P
