Just a quick note:
IM NOT LOOKING FOR A GRAPHICAL LAYOUT

I'm looking for a very simple/minimalist layout, I can't stress enough - look at the sites i've put under "what im looking for", its very important you read the page thoroughly, as i'm getting alot of things that are nothing near the asked for layout

Also another note to designers - not everything has to be contained within borders :) Sometimes open space is alot better than closed space

Shame because you can do so many beautiful things with CSS

For people with portfolios, will they be allowed to put their design in their portfolio if it is chosen ?

This is how graphical I want it:

Notice that images don't particularly form the layout (ie just the logo/a couple of background gradient/colour blocks) and the majority of it is solid colours, no borders and any images just enhance the layout itself

there will be no "external links" as such, just advertisement block and internal links such as 'post by category', a small blurb about twod in the navigation bar...

I'll give this a go for you Jay. I'll review your layout criteria tomorrow and I will consult you via PM if I need any detailed information upon exact elements. I'll deliver you what I deem simplistic, and I hope you'll like it. :)

Hey Jay

Are we aloud to use DIV's and CSS but still keep it simplistic? I would add an image here and there, but just asking if we are aloud to code it for you. if not, let me know because thats what i planned.

Coding is in no way required, but if you feel you have to then do so :)

I dont have to, but i feel this would be easier in making a simple template. Plus I know that you like css :).

The rules are flexible as i'm willing to reply to entrants to tell them what needs changing on the layout... I think theres been 2 entries that have followed the guidelines on first draft so far, but the rest i've worked with to improve and implement those guidelines... otherwise i'd recieve nothing i'm happy with and it just wouldn't be a layout i'm happy with at the end of the day :)
