in l.a i guess the 2 biggest ones are "whats up" or "whats crackin"... along with a name for someone .. like.. "G", "boi", "dawg", "homeboy".. damn.. so many....

In scotland it's usually "awite" but all slurred so it soujnds kinda like a mumble

If you're formal, yeah. But normally you don't say "Hej" to people you already know. "Tjena" or "Hallå" is more commonly used.
