Polygon Trouble

Sorry about the spammage, but I reached another problem!!!

The Problem:

I am extruding a polygonal face, but the edge ring or width subdivision of the faces around the extruding face will not go along with the extrusion.

Any comments or opinions are welcomed!!!

Edit: is it like every edge that does that? or only a couple?

I'd like to help but even after the screen shot I dont quite understand your problem. I'm pretty new to Maya as well.

you extrude it fine? i dont see any probs with it

The only thing I can think of. Is he may have wanted the edges he highlighted together. Which if that is the case. Instead of an extrude. You could select the middle face and simply raise it up to the position you want.
