I thought that this would be the best place to post this topic, if it isn't then please would you be able to move it to the right one rather then deleting/closing it? I am thinking of developing a personal site, which will be organised in a category-type set up ranging from my career to my car. I am planning on keeping this as a final online project of mine and therefore want it to be the best. I have owned many sites before all of which haven't really been successful. I know what mistakes I have done and I know how to improve on them, which is why I am so keen and so confident that it will be a success and a major improvement to what I have created before.
In saying this though, there are some questions, opinions and advice that I would like to request from The Admin Zone's members. They all relate to the development of this new project and will really help me get things right and organised for its success.
I have thought about what domain I should get and cannot make up my mind. I have thought about using my name, which isn't a bad idea, however how should I set it out? There are ways that I can spell my name with the end of the actual domain, such as www.garygom.es for example (which is a Spanish extension). Or should I plainly and easily go for something like www.garygomes.com?
In regards to how I will be setting up the website; I will be using WordPress for it all. In my opinion, WordPress is the best content management system out there and it is software that I have used quite a number of times before and is extremely powerful, user-friendly and does the job no matter what the obstacles are.
Some background information for the website to help out with the description; it will be organised in separate 'categories', for example, the homepage will list the top 5 blog posts from various 'categories' of the site which include 'My Life', 'My Career', 'My Car', etc. Each of these categories will be its own section of the website however they are all in relation to me. I will also include my resume and will use it as a way of getting additional revenue not only from advertising, but from offering various services such as hosting and possibly making use of my architectural skills (I am currently in my third year of studying architecture).
I hope that you all understand what I am trying to release and kindly ask that you all provide me with as much feedback as possible. I know that most of you have MUCH more experience then I have and it's always been said that sharing is caring. Help me make this final project one to remember and exist for many years to come!
Thanks very much everyone and sorry about the essay!
~ Gary
