Looks like paint with flakes in it to me, metallic paint. Same way they paint some of the boats.
You can Google it and find plenty of tips.
You can look at cars and pick a color, order it and spray it. youll need a hvlp gun and a compressor and such. as well as all the materials.
If you do it, make sure u buy some additional flakes to mix in, if you want that super glittery look them have.
(I'm very amateur in the painting department, just been reading up on it because i plan on painting my camaro sooner or later, So you should probably wait for some more posts lol)
If you are wanting to do it yourself, hang around http://www.s10forum....exterior-paint/
Theres probably a painter only forum out there, but i dont know of it.

Pearlescent paint is more... it flips colors more, them cars that u see that look blue, but sometimes kinda look green? that's pearlescent
it looks similair to metallic sometimes, but metallic stays the same color.
(may be wrong )

I do agree those are gorgeous painted guitars. Well, you can find for somebody who do that kind of job professionally, so you won't messed up with your guitar. You can just give them idea how do you want it, to look like, or I guess they have catalog of color you can choose from.
