Adobe today bought Macromedia for a deal worth over $3.4 billion. For more information on this sexy purchase view the official release from Adobe here

I just read about that on the BBC. It's good in a sense that they'll bring good graphics software and web development software together, that is as long as Adobe drop golive and imageready and continue with Dreamweaver and Flash instead.
It would also be cool if the incorporated the best of freehand into illustrator.

Would be interesting to see some Macrobe or Adromedia products being released. Would be interested in a simple Photoshop / Flash thing being produced and with some actual help with the program >.>.

well the adobe illustrator already had save as swf format...... but i think this is a really good thing to happen. there was so much tht macromedia needed from adobe programs and vice versa. now they just need a program that can do it all. graphics (raster and vector) animation (better then the horrible imageready) and maybe even a nice 3d program.

Well this definatlz has its good parts but think about this:

Less Competition
Programmes will be dumped
Jobs will be lost
Prices for Macromedia products will rise (Adobe likes to push up their prices)

how can anybody say it was a bad move. we dont really know any situation they may have been in. they may have made an under the table deal with adobe. if anything this can only mean good things. and why would people be fired. adobe will need the people who created flash and macromedias library of software to help them. if they fired them then their people would have 2 times the load.

I agree, of course there are bad sides, like in any merger but also consider this:

Photoshop and Illustrator will cooperatre with Flash and Dreamweaver alot better
You will be able to use PDF's in Flash
The Adobe Suite will include Flash and Dreamweaver

Dunno how much the old suite costs, but the new CS2 from Adobe costs £927 or you can get the premium version for £1,115.
The premium contains:

Photoshop
Illustrator
Indesign
Golive
Acrobat Pro
Bridge (Acording to adobe you can "Efficiently organize, browse, locate, and preview the assets you need every day from within the new Adobe Bridge visual file browser." with bridge)
Stock Photos (Access to royalty free images)

they might not eliminate fireworks. it may be kind of like bungie and microsoft. bungie is reltively large but microsoft owns them. however they are allowed to create their own stuff (of course with approval) but they pretty much have their on product line. its going to be like a federal and state government except really small
