It would appear we have a problem folks... people seem to be abusing their ability to post images in sigs by using sig image rotator scripts. Due to the image load it poses by rotating images all the time, not to mention some force download prompts in IE, they are NOT ALLOWED on this forum.

ANYONE caught using an image rotator script in their signature will be banned on the spot for 1 week. No warning - no nothing. This will not be tolerated.

Continued abuse will result in the removal of everyone's ability to post images in their sigs and we'll keep it text based if necessary. I'm sure no one wants it to come to that, so let's clean it up guys. Static images only please.

Thanks,
Faken

I believe those are animated gifs... They rotate while just looking at it because it's actually a single animated image. If it rotates on refresh, then that is an image rotator and that will warrant a ban.

Rotater sigs are dynamically generated (usually by PHP) which randomly selects an image from a list in the script, so if you have 5 sigs, each time you view the "image" a different sig will appear.

Hope I've helped ;)

Hiding these in .htaccess will not trick us either or adding as jpg's a simple refresh shows us.

Any member noticing these please message any of the P2L staff here we appreciate all to help in this.

Posted Image Thanks Faken for adding this.

I don't think this is at all unreasonable, i'm actually glad you doing it, one of the reason's i stayed with P2L is because there load tiems were ridiculously slow compared to other sites were i was waiting 20 minutes for a page because some kid had an animated gif that was 500 kb.

Faken, might I suggest stricter signature rules about filesize from what I hear from the above post and what I feel and see at other forums I visit, the smaller the sig size the less
a)Jumpy it is as the images load faster and I can read in peace
b)Less scrolling I have to do as there are genrally smaller sigs
c)The more enjoyable my experience is as I don't have these large image barrier that sometimes can be very annoying :)

Also it'll teach people to optimize and Save For Web :D

Just a suggestion.....

That's abit too small limit :) but like 40 - 50 KB

and just like an "area" limit -so instead of saying

can't be larger than 500 by 100

you can say no larger area of 50000 pixels squared - and no higher than 150px

(Gives more room for creativity)

It has happened in other forums :S Hopefully we'll have BBCode and colours and stuff then to make it aesthetically pleasing :)

Wait! What am I saying - we are not losing images!

so what do these rotating images actually do bad to the site. do they slow it down, use bandwidth, or what? and about teh sig size limit...60 kb is fine, i find it hard to get under 60 sometimes...especially PNG since u cant adjust quality on PNG. I do agree however that a sig above 60kb would be a bit much, and huge 500 kb animated sigs bug me.

You can't read text behind the images so none of us know whats in that script safe or bad and the amount of viruses floating all over the web its just NOT safe, some browses force you to download the script if you try to view them.
