In this Tutorial I will show you how to make a background suitable for anything from Sigs to Wallpapers. I used Photoshop Elements 2.0, so the tutorial will be for that.

1. Make a new document 400 x 400 pixels. Name it whatever you want.

2. Press 'D' and set background to Black.

3. Go to Filter>Render>Difference Clouds. Once you have applied it, press CTRL+F about 30 times.

So far, you should have something like this:

3. Go to Filter>Stylize>Glowing Edges and use these settings:

4. Next, go to Filter>Distort>Twirl and use these settings:

5. Duplicate the layer and go to Image>Rotate>Flip Horizontal

6. Set blending style to 'Lighten'

7. Merge the two layers (CTRL+E)

8. Duplicate your new layer and go to Filter>Render>Lighting Effects and use these settings:

9. Set blending style to 'Overlay'.

10. Merge the two layers (CTRL+E) and you are done!

Here is the final result:

If you tweak it a bit and add your own touches, you can get things like this!

Hope this tutorial comes in handy sometime!
