Illustrator CS2 Transparency Help

I need to apply transparency to a section of my illustrator image. Noted in the screenshot, the white area >> needs to be transparent.

you could use the magic wand tool to select and remove the white area

In illustrator? I need to stay in vector format.

:( I'm not sure how you have that set up. You could just remove the white part, or make the transparency 0%.

To make the transparency 0%, click on the object and lower the opacity in the window. (Window > Transparency if you don't see it). :)

I figured it out. I had to use the sub selection tool>>alt-click the white part and the orange part>>effects>>Pathfinder>>subtract

Thanks for the help anyway. I was just getting a little frustrated. It's had to remember all the tricks for so many apps ya know??

Hey, can i ask you how you made the triangles aligned to the sun's sphere?

I'm guessing he just made one triangle, aligned it, duplicated it, and aligned it, duplicated it and aligned it, etc :D

maybe, but i want to know if theres a handy trick in illustrator for that.

You can align objects to a path. Sometimes it works ok. I usually go into the preferences and edit the keyboard increment to 0.1 px to make detailed adjustments.

There is an easy trick:

1. select triangle
2. choose rotation tool
3. first click where you want your centre of rotation (centre of the other circle in this case)
4. then alt+drag the triangle: a copy will rotate round in the circle you want.
