What is your opinion on my new web layout for my website?

Any scripts or code corrections will be appreciated. Also your views on the design of the website. Many thanks

It looks O.K though I don't think the white 100% opacity things fits. I personally think it is a little too grassy even though I understand this is based on Wndows Vista. Also do something about the text in the content box, make it smaller or bold it, or maybe do booth to make it more clear readable. Otherwise I think it looks O.K.

oh ok thanks. No the name is from something not related to the website at all. Its based off Stargate; the Chevrons on the Stargate with an X after it. I sorta liked the name and grew on it. Thanks for your input I will mess around with the text and see how it goes.

Any more suggestions?

i personally think the text would look fine if u put this in the head of ur page

<style type="text/css">
body {
font-family:Trebuchet MS; color:#000;
}
</style>

obviously u could change the font/color if u wanted

I think the navigation box and copyright box should be the same width as each other, just to create some kind of consistancy. The height of the content box should be similar to that of the copyright box so it looks level and you appear to use a similar size gap down the side between white background and the actual nav bar, but its a little bigger on the right hand side.

Did you get permission to use that background?

No I didnt; in fact I dont know who made it; there are many versions out there; I have slightly modified it too make it darker in some places so that its not too dark for text; and made some of the leaves a bit longer. Although I doubt that warrents me able to use it without asking; I just dont know who made it.

I will work on making it consistent.

Thanks Davey I will do that; and the fact that most people have Trebuchet makes it all the sweeter

I don't really like how the background picture just stops. Maybe try fading it out a bit.

Here are some problems.
  • Sliced in photoshop? How about you hand code it.
  • Your using tables. Thats good, but DIVs are better
  • The text in the content box is plain and default
  • There is no padding in the content box
  • The "shadows" dont look very nice
  • And I bet you are in some way shape or form infringing on some copyrights. You are using Microsoft Windows Vista icons and the Vista wallpaper as your background. I also dont think its such a good idea to base the Vista glass theme on a website.
  • What are the big black borders on the sides of your website for? Just to take up space?

1. Sliced in photoshop? How about you hand code it.

It will take a long time

2. Your using tables. Thats good, but DIVs are better

I dont know much about DIVs

3. The text in the content box is plain and default

I am going to use Davey's suggestion

4. There is no padding in the content box

Dont know much about padding either? What is it and how do I add it?

5. The "shadows" dont look very nice

Oh im sorry about that. I like it.

7. What are the big black borders on the sides of your website for? Just to take up space?

No; they are the websites background.

Hmm I thought the site was centered. The background isnt black black. It's the colour of the background of the background image so it sort of joins. I will look at a brighter colour.

ok just a few minor things i think u need to fix.:

on your photoshop centre all of your main boxes... the top nav bar sticks out on the right slightly.. to centre it clik the wand tool right clik press select all.. select the layer its on.. then press the main movement tool (top right) while the whole layer is selectd then use the align to vertical centre.. and then republish and just update ur pictures.. simply because the pictures are the same dimensions

also make the nav bar and the bar below the same size... they look funny and out of proportion :blush:
