I am trying to find out what kind of effect this is. I don't know if the grain texture was used or if a different texture was used. Everything else I can handle. Thanks!

I was told something of an x and o pattern from someone on a different forum. I don't know yet because I haven't tried it yet
The x is transparent and the o is white on a 2x2 canvas. How would I draw this out if the x is transparent?

And... i wont .... basicly.
The x pattern however is simple enough, make a new document 2x2 pixles. and in that document zoom in to 1600% and fill two pixles on the diagonal using the rectangular marquee tool (marching ants). Then go under edit and define pattern. then in a layer you can go under edit<fill and use this pattern.
my result

Basic outline would be: Desaturated image monoresaturated and applied the crosshatch filter on, blended against a pattern overlay tweaked by levels, contrast and adjustmentlayers. Masked where approperiate then have highlights tweaked and colours tweaked. Then had its threshold whitespace copied and transformed to where approperiate and finaly layers of brushing applied on top and where approperiate underneath.
Does that help?

Id sugiest if you dont know how to do something you shouldnt give a timeframe for how long learning it will take and then making but hey, thats up to you. In any case the only filter that is involved is the crosshatch! Other tequnices that are involved: Pattern overlay, threshold, colourbalance, levels, contrast, colour range selection, hue/saturation, brushing(grunge) channels shape smoothing by levels and blur, masking, layer blending, transforming, repossisioning.

Sweetie, do not give me suggestions on a timeframe. Some people learn quicker than others. Anyway, so that you know, if you zoom in on that photo, it really isn't the crosshatch filter yet checkerboard. I'm not going to go back and forth. Thanks for the input and may you not be so lazy to help a person out next time. Peace!

We deal with sugiestions, feedback, critesism and man to man helping out here. Posts like that makes it feel worthless to try helping people out.

I am not going to argue on here because it is pointless but I am entitled to my opinion. I did feel like he/she was being lazy but hey, I did get a clearer picture of what to do somewhere else without a tutorial. So that last little unappreciated comment about me not getting much help is obviously not true. I had NO problems and they did help as much as they could with more than one person answering and giving examples. Anyway, I understand what you are trying to say but everyone can say what they want, right? I rarely ever come to get help because I do search for my answer but this was something a little complicated. Anyway, this will be my last reply so have a great night
Dance,
Thanks! Sorry if you feel that way.

As for the effect.. .looks like pointilism with a noise filter... at least that how I'd do it in Photopaint
