Let's say I create a circle (just for example) using the ellipse tool and then apply a stroke like in the following image:

How do I extract only the stroke border of the circle so that I can apply blending options to that portion? It's the red part of that image obviously. I know of a few ways to do it such as rasterizing the layer and using a tool to select the red border and extracting that, or even just using a circular brush to erase the center, but those aren't very efficient methods and it's not going to leave me with a perfectly clean edge. I could use the pen tool also but again that's not very efficient, I'm just wondering if there's an easier way which I don't know of.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

nvm I just set the fill to 0% and then rasterized the layer with only the stroke left and then merged that layer with a new empty one, not sure why I didn't think of that before

thanks anyway
