Hello everyone, this is my first tutorial. This will help you in quickly and easily extracting images from backgrounds of the same shade or color. Here is th base image:

Just using the magic wand on it and deleting takes a lot out of the picture, because the background and parts of the man are the same shade and color. This would result in something like this:

Posted Image

So first we duplicate the layer of the image we want to use.

Posted Image

On the Background copy layer, go to Image>Adjustments>Brightness/Contrast and set the contrast to 100%.

Posted Image

Select the Magic Wand and then use it on the Background Copy layer.

Posted Image

Then, click on the layer called Background, with the Background Copy layer still selected.

Posted Image

Click Delete. Then, take the Background Copy layer and drag it to the Trash Can to delete it, leaving only the Background layer. The result should look something like this:

There are a few chunks missing, but its still better than the picture from before, huh? Take the History Brush and draw in the chunks missing. Heres my final result:

Hope this helps! My first tut![B]

yeah that is a easy and fast way to do it, never thought about doing that. you can also select the white part of the background with the magic wand then in the selected part, right click>feather>1px. then press delete on your keyboard 2 or 3 times and it will make the out line of the render smoother and not as choppy.

not bad, a little extra tip so u dont have to do so much history brushing, just set the tolerance really low on your magic wand when you select the black, that'll select fewer shades
