Ok, here's a little tutorial on how to make light go around a dark image like you see in some pictures. I will be doing a whale from the bottom looking up to the surface of an ocean.

1. Open a new document like so:

2. Set your colors to 78DCDD and 6192BC, but it doesn't matter which is foreground/backround.

3. Click Filter > Render > Clouds.

4. Click Filter > Distort > Ocean Ripple (Ripple Size = 10; Ripple Magnitude = 20)

5. Click Filter > Render > Lighting Effects, change the Light Type to Omni and leave the rest default.

6. Duplicate the layer and set the duplicated layer's blending mode to Multiply.

7. Take your image, I'll be using a whale as this is an ocean view, and place it between the two ocean layers, and fill it completely with black.

8. Click Filter > Distort > Ripple (Amount = 175; Size = Medium)

9. Click Filter > Blur > Gaussain Blur (Radius = 2.0)

10. Now merge the image and the duplicated ocean layer and change the blending mode back to Multiply.

11. Click Filter > Blur > Radial Blur (Amount = 25; Blur Method = zoom; Quality = Best)

12. Done! This is the final image I got:

The rippling doesn't need to be applied for all images, but I was doing underwater so that called for it. Enjoy!
