Adobe DreamWeaver
Uploading to a Remote Server Using Dreamweaver
View Example Page

Introduction:
This tutorial is an in-depth account of how to push your Dreamweaver to the edge of its performance. This time we will be setting up a connection to a remote server so that you can upload your webpage directly to the net without ever having to leave Dreamweaver.

IMPORTANT:
To complete this tutorial, I am assuming that you have read and understood my previous tutorial on setting up a local testing server using Dreamweaver or in some other way defined a Site using the Site->Manage Sites Command in Dreamweaver. Please note that without doing any of the above, this tutorial will be impossible to complete.

The Tutorial:

Ok so you have defined a site using this twodded tutorial, and you have been happily testing away on your local server. Now your site is completed and you would love to upload it to the web, but you dont own an Ftp Client! What Now? This is where this tutorial will come in really handy.

First, make sure you have the Files Window open. If you cant see it anywhere in your DW, got to Window->Files to open it. Mine looks like this, and as you can see I am working on the Twodded Examples site which I have defined in this tutorial.

As you can see I am still in the Local View because I have not set up my remote server. I will be using the space given to me by Jay to store my tutorial images, you will of course be using your own connection.

What we have to do now is define the connection this site will be using. To do this we go to the little drop-down menu in the Files Window where it says Local View. Change this to read Remote View. Now your window should look like this:

As you can see I selected Remote View form the menu and DW is now asking me to set up a remote server. Click on the link and a pop-up window will appear.

As you can see I have already filled out all the required information to connect to my Host. After doing the same, you can click on the Test Button to see if your info is correct. If it is, DW will prompt you with a Connection was Successful Message. Afterwards click OK.

Go back to you Files window where you slected Remote View earlier. The should now be a message saying To connect to server, click on the connect icon in your toolbar. After doing so, DW will now connect to your server and display all the files which are stored there.

Now we want to upload our page, right? Go back to your Local View, highlight the folder or file you want to upload and click on the arrow which is pointing upwards, like I have done in this example

DW will now automatically upload your folder to the server. Easy, isnt it? If you now switch back to your Remote View you will see your folder displayed there, which means that you can now access it on the web. View Example Page

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and that it will help you in the near future.
