How to connect your printer to your iPhone

The ability to quickly print with only a click on your iPhone can be a great advantage. Let’s say you’re leaving the house to go to the theatre and you forget to print out the tickets or are leaving for the airport and didn’t recall to print out the check-in, switching on the computer might just take too long. And your anxiety level might rise. Alternatively, you can connect your iPhone to the printer and literally print out with one foot out of the house.

There is an application called AirPrint on the iPhone that allows you to print out using a Wi-Fi connection. And for this you will need a wireless printer. However not all printers support AirPrint, and to be able to print a document, you might need to download an application from the Internet. The only problem with the external applications is that they often offer a service limited to some formats, for example you might be able to print pictures but not PDF or documents or emails.

If your best option is printing with AirPrint, you need a wireless connection for both the printer and the iPhone. Once this is checked, make sure you switch both devices on.

Now that all instruments are one, you’re ready to connect them. Doing that is as easy as printing from your iPhone. Assuming you haven’t bought a brand new wireless printer, you’ll have it installed and connected to your main computer. All you need to do now is connecting your iPhone to the same network your printer is connected to. If you have only one Wi-Fi network, connect your iPhone to that one.

In order to connect your iPhone to a wireless network go on settings and select Wi-Fi, this will allow the iPhone to browse all the networks available. Choose the network your printer is connected to, you might need to enter a password, or a keyword. Be aware that some devices will call the connection WLAN (Wireless LAN) instead of Wi-Fi.

Now your printer and iPhone are travelling on the same network and you can start printing your pages. Open an application that supports AirPrint, such as: Safari, Mail or Photos and choose the content you intend to print. Click on the option “print” and tap on your wireless printer. Your pages and pictures are now ready to come out.
