Amazing stuff coming in there, I don't even know if its worth for me competing anymore, but I'll probably just do it to keep learning anyway .
Thats the spirit , first contests I ever entered were jus for the experience...
Find a "simply spa" logo competition over here somewhere...You can see my first logo design ever...
Just hidious , but I kept going, and here I am

Ha me too my first logo's were in that comp aswell , though I had been using Flash for 4 years, and you only Photoshop for 3 months.. But I had a look at your second logo ever, and it's just a HUGE step up, unlike mine.Thats the spirit , first contests I ever entered were jus for the experience...

Dunno what to say...Been using PS for 8 months now...
The most important thing is that you must love one program and stick to it, thats the only way to master it...
Nowdays I use illustrator a lot too, but I use it only to convert something I drew in PS to vector...
Ive been messing around with a lot of programs, but PS remaind my true love , Oh yes, I love that bloody thing!!!

Feel free to prove me wrong

anyway, here's my newbie entry mockup - I say mockup because I actually rendered Mr. VBot here and the letters separately, so the reflections aren't accurate. Plus, I'm not supposed to be doing any image work right now anyway (yay midterms ftw -.-)
I don't really have much experience creating Web 2.0 looking logos, but I figured I might as well use my relative forte in 3D to try my hand in this comp.
So, here's my mockup...I tried to incorporate a 'simple character'. I'm thinking maybe I'll end up having VBot actually pick up a few letters. Iuno. Like I said, a mockup.

lol NothingMan, I like how the swirl forms the V and the G - pretty creative

If this was my comp I'd choose that one, it's really nice and seems to fit the whole gaming scene with pixelated text and the little robot
Very nice

I actually have Ben/darkstone to credit for the pixel text inspiration - he posted a 3d pixelated lettering early in the contest
the robot took me about 6 hours; 5 hours was from thinking of what to make it like -.-. I wanted it to be simple and stuff, so it wasn't that hard once i figured out what to create

hm. I just realized that it's not version suitable for a logo because of the perspective...i'll get a change on that. sorry for spamming
[edit]
Alright, i think this is more viable for a logo - rescaled everything Turns out adding a floor didn't hinder anything too much.
