Trying not to sound too harsh, but I did kinda see it coming.

Oh well.
Man, he was great... I'm an Aussie and I feel absolutely sorry for his family. Apparently his wife was in Tasmania hiking... something like that (so I heard). Doesn't he have young children? Imagine what they are going through... They'd probably not want to go near the sea/ocean again

that guy was great.
does noone find it quite ironic that he spent years and years wrestling 20 ft crocodiles in fresh water rivers all over the world, and then he gets killed by a stingray in the sea (and as ghost pointed out only the third in recorded oz history).
how could something like this happen though? is a stingray barb on its front or on its tail? surely he mustve seen it coming and thought 'oh shit, i better move' ... the guy was experienced enough.

I've watched his TV show from time to time, he was sometimes annoying but nevertheless, he commited his life to protect animals and the wildlife.
Solely for that he get's my respect!

that makes sense then. where was your source btw, i have been able to find very little detail about it all so far...He was filming a documentry at the time, and he dived into the water and onto the barb.. now THAT is unlucky. Also, his wife was trekking in Tasmania at the time, on Cradle Mountain (been there, and awesome experience).
